BALA CAMP
At The heart of the Amazonian pampa

Discovery 4 days from April to November Private Spanish or English speaking guide

Along the way…

Rurrenabaque is the entryway to the Beni region, at the foot of the Serranias de Pilón Lajas and of Madidi and is the departing point for the excursions and stays in the Amazonian jungle and the pampa.
This trip takes you to camp Bala, on Rio Yacuma. The Eco-lodge, recently built, offers all the amenities (mosquito nets, toilets and showers) making it visitor friendly while respecting the environment. It is the best and most comfortable lodge in the area and is located in the heart of a pampa where Amazonian animals and plants abound.
Knowledgeable guides will accompany you on these excursions allowing you to explore this area in safety. This is an ideal setting to discover and to experience the Amazonian ecosystem.

Day 2: RURRENABAQUE – BALA CAMP

Departure from the Hotel at 9 a.m. in our private 4WD. After about two and a half hours on a dirt road (depending on the state of the road), we reach Bala camp, on the banks of Rio Yacuma via the village of Santa Rosa. In the afternoon, a motorboat trip to observe wildlife is scheduled: we will see a number of animals. Many different species of birds (toucans, parrots, tapacarés, king fishers, marabous, herons and other wader birds…), soft water turtles, caimans and monkeys (howling, whittlers and chichiloes) are often spotted.
We return to the camp at the end of the day, enjoy dinner, then participate in a night walk to observe nocturnal habits of the local fauna.
A hot lunch, dinner and lodging at the eco-lodge are all included.

Day 3: BALA CAMP

In the morning, we follow a local foot trail to search for the sicuri, the famous anaconda that can reach a length of up to 12 meters and live to be a hundred years. During this hike, we can also see some capihuaras (the biggest rodent in the world), tapirs (if we have a lot of luck) and discover medicinal plants, still in use by the local inhabitants.
In the afternoon, we leave for another canoe or motorboat excursion. Upon return to camp, we can safely bathe in the Yacuma River in company of the Bufeos (pink dolphins) populating the almost totality of all the waterways of the great Amazonian basin.
Cold lunch. All included. Night at the Eco-lodge.

DAY 4: BALA CAMP – RURRENABAQUE – LA PAZ

Return in 4WD to Rurrenabaque. Along the way, we stop on the riverbanks and with light fishing rods attempt to catch some piranhas or bentons, small carnivorous fish prisoners of small lagunas left after the rainy season.
