This unique tour takes us to the discovery of three National Parks: the Amboro park, wildlife and lush flora, Toro Toro Park, a catalog of geological curiosities and finally the Sajama Park, synthesizing all the wonders alone to the Altiplano.

TRAVEL BOOK

Day 1: Santa Cruz


Your guide and a private driver will pick you up at the airport and take you to your hotel.
Transfer in the morning to the Güembé Park, 15 minutes from Santa Cruz. This 24 hectares paradise is a mix of tropical forest, lagoons and crystal clear water, and also keeps one of the biggest "butterflies house" in the World and a orchids collection.
Guided visit (in english) of the buildings (butterflies house, butterflies reproduction laboratory, orchids temple, termites castle...) then free time, to enjoy a swim, a kayak tours or a hike along marked tracks in the nature.

Day 2: Santa Cruz - Samaipata

Departure from the hotel at 8:30 a.m. to go to the Inca fortress of Samaipata by private vehicle. Beautiful area between the Amazon and the Andes where we can see the remains of the most isolated Inca fortress of the empire, built to control the invasion of the Guaranis Indians.


Visit of the site. Lunch and dinner included.

Day 3: Samaipata - Amboro Park

Departure at 8:30 a.m. to go to the Amboro Park´s forest, where we can observe a few species of giant ferns only found in Bolivia (Dicksonia Sellowiana and Alsophila Incana) as well as many wild orchids species.
Hike before the return to Samaipata.
Cold lunch included. Dinner included.

Night at the volcanos´ shelter.
Included : room & breakfast, lunch (no drinks), dinner (no drinks), english speaking guide, private transport

Day 4: Amboro Park - Santa Cruz

We enjoy a delicious tropical breakfast in the morning before heading out on the heights of the shelter to enjoy a panoramic view of the park Amboro. With a little luck we will have the opportunity to observe some typical bird species of the region.
Back to the shelter to enjoy a deserved swim in the natural pools nearby.
Then transfer by car to Bermejo after lunch.
Back to Santa Cruz in the late afternoon.

Day 5: Santa Cruz - Cochabamba

Day 6: Cochabamba - Toro Toro

We leave early in the morning in our private 4WD and head south. It takes about 5 hours to reach Lake Torotoro, passing through the charming villages of Tarata, Cliza and Anzaldo, typically “cochabambinos”.


After lunch we visit the dinosaur excavation site where we can see numerous dinosaur remains. This region, which was 80 million years ago a lagoon of stagnant water, abounds in fossils of mastodons, brontosaurus and tridactyls herbivores, but also in fossils of sea turtles, sharks and innumerable prehistoric plants.

Day 7: Toro Toro

The Torotoro Park is also the caving Mecca of the world. The underground is in fact a vast, mostly unexplored, labyrinth.
We visit on foot the Humajalanta Cave. With our caving gear, we enter the cave to discover the interesting blind catfish populating these underground waters, as well as admire walls covered with beautiful stalactites and stalagmites.
Return to the village of Torotoro. Visit of the museum of the Casa de Piedra.

Day 8: Toro Toro - Cochabamba

We hike to the site of El Vergel. It is, without a doubt, the most beautiful walk of the region, taking us through a magnificent canyon to a waterfall and its crystalline pools. On the way, we stop at the mirador to admire the canyon of Río Torotoro.


In the afternoon we return to Cochabamba.

Day 9: Cochabamba - La Paz

Day 10: La Paz - Palca Canyon - La Paz

Departure from the hotel at 9am in private vehicle heading to the Obejuyo col and the Valle de las Animas. We discover the incredible Illimani mountain range. We keep on going through the Palca Canyon, natural show made of stones, creating a kind of amphitheater because of the erosion. We come back to La Paz during the afternoon through the small village of Ventilla. The way offers beautiful scenic view over the Royal Cordillera.

Night at the La Posada de la Abuela***.

Day 11: La Paz - Tomarapi

Departure from the hotel at 9 a.m. in a private vehicle. We traverse the altiplano until we reach the entrance of Sajama national park (about 4h) via the small village of Curahuara de Carangas and its well-adorned colonial church (the frescoes are perfectly preserved). On the way, we stop by chullpas (carangas sepultures) empty today after their systematic pillaging.
We enter the park by a dirt road that takes us to the village of Tomarapi. The wildlife is abundant and varied: alpacas, vicuñas and ñandus (a close cousin of the ostrich) if we are lucky.

Night at the Tomarapi Ecolodge***.

Day 12: Tomarapi - Sajama

Transfer Tomarapi- Geisers.
In the morning we go by 4x4 to the geysers. This particularly active area offers a unique display of hot springs baths spread over hundreds of square meters.
From there, we take a path that goes along the stream to reach the Khasiri lagoon (4850 masl.) After 2h30 walk, we observe different species of water birds including coots giant (Ajoya in Aymara), which is hardly away from their nests : large floating platforms made of seaweed and grass.
An hour climb is necessary to reach a plateau where you can see the beautiful lagoon Sorapata (4960 m alt.). This magical place, surrounded by stunning copper colored mountains, is conducive to a lunch break. Then we descend to the geysers enjoying a beautiful view of Pomerape volcano (6280 m). We find our 4x4 that leads us to the natural hot springs where we will enjoy a relaxing bath at the foot of the volcano Sajama.

Day 13: Sajama - La Paz

In the morning, drive along the base of volcano Sajama, revered by the local population like a god, to reach laguna Huaña Khota. The fauna is abundant and varied: flamingoes, alpacas, vicuñas and ostriches (if we are lucky). We then visit the village of Tomarapi, and its charming church of a peculiar Andean style.
In the afternoon, return to La Paz (3 to 4-hour).
