| Along the way… |
This adventure very special circuit begins in the Andes, at 4700 meters above sea level. At a place called “Cumbre”; we start our mad descent into the Amazon Basin.
The first stage of our journey takes us to Coroico, the “Pearl of the Yungas”, via the well-known and spectacular “Death Road”. The mountain bike descent gives us the opportunity to really enjoy some of the most breathtaking Bolivian landscapes.
We take time to fully enjoy the charms of Coroico, before following our descent, this time in a 4WD vehicle to Guanay, a gold digger village. The forest thickens; we are now 4000 meters lower than where we started!
We then embark on our pirogue for three exceptional days: the descent of Río Beni, crossing from one end to the other Madidi Park and Pilón Lajas, true sanctuaries of a Nature still untouched.

Day 1: LA PAZ – COROICO / MAD MOUNTAIN BIKE DESCENT |
 |
Departure at 7:30 a.m. from our hotel in a private 4WD for the Cumbre Pass (el. 4750 m.a.s.l. – 1h). We start our exciting mountain bike descent from this extremity of the Altiplano. As we bike down the winding road, the scenery becomes more lush, the air more humid, the wind yet warmer... more than 3500 meters of elevation loss to reach Yolosa (el. 1100 m.a.s.l.) in just a few hours!
To end the day, a steep, 7-kilometer uphill (650 m of elevation gain) takes us to the village of Coroico, paradise of the Yungas (option to do this last part in the support vehicle).
Cold lunch included. Dinner open (restaurant El Cafetal recommended). Hotel ** / swimming pool.
Note: the descent is done as a group. English speaking guide

Day 3: COROICO - GUANAY |
 |
We leave early. Taking a dirt road following the Coroico River, in the direction of the North of Bolivia. The track enters a beautiful canyon that takes us to Caranavi, the coffee capital of Bolivia, where we have lunch. In the afternoon, we continue along the Coroico River, soon met by the Zongo River, to arrive at the end of the day in Guanay, village still living the gold rush (7-hour trip).
Lunch on the road (included). All included. Night at the Alojamiento Los Pinos (basic comfort).

| |
Day 4: GUANAY – RÍO KAKA |
 |
Embark on our motorized pirogue for our three-day crossing of the old growth forest. We follow the course of one of the biggest Amazonian rivers of Bolivia, which curves between the last « serranías », small mountain ranges that don’t exceed a few hundred meters in height, last trace of the Cordillera of the Andes.
Each day we enjoy a short hike into the forest, to swim in one of the innumerable crystal clear waterfalls that mark our way and meet some indigenous communities. We, also, get a chance to discover the abundant flora and the exuberant fauna of the Amazon: Capybaras, monkeys, birds in the thousand… a real communion with nature.
Everything included. Bivouac (if it rains, possibility of shelter under thatched roofs).
|
| |
Day 5: RÍO KAKA – RÍO BENI |
 |
The river, at this point, receives the waters of Río La Paz, after its tour of the Illmani mountain range, before dropping into the Amazon Basin. On the right bank, we find the Biospheric Preserve of Pilón Lajas, while on the left bank is located the High Madidi National Park. We are in the heart of a still virgin and preserved nature; It is one of the most precious jewels on our planet.
All included. Bivouac (in case it rains, we spend the night under a thatched roof).
|
| |
Day 6: RÍO BENI – RURRENABAQUE |
 |
We keep on descending the river. We pass the canyon of Beo (last gorge and last “serranía” of our trip) before entering Madidi National Park and Rurrenabaque at the end of the day. We are now on the immense plain stretching all the way into Brazil.
Lunch included. Dinner open. Hotel ***.
