ANDEAN TRIATHLON
Outdoor circuit: Lake Titicaca, Cordillera Real, tropical Yungas

Mountain bike-Trek-Boat 14 days March to November Private Spanish or English speaking

Along the way…

La Paz is located at the crossroads of three very different geological systems: the Altiplano, Lake Titicaca, the majestic Cordillera Real and its summits often peaking at over 6000 meters above sea level and finally the tropical region of the Yungas where grow the famous coca leave as well as all the tropical fruits that supply the capital colorful markets.
This outdoor circuit takes us to the discovery of three different atmospheres, using original methods of transports: sailing boat, trek and mountain bike. Pure pleasure!

From there we keep climbing to a second pass (Paso Austria, 5200 m.a.s.l.) before descending on the other side towards El Condoriri and El Pequeño Alpamayo base camp, at the edge of Laguna Chiarkhota (el. 4670 m.a.s.l.).

We then drop into the very beautiful and steep Jistaña Valley, before ascending Tillipata Pass (el. 5000 m.a.s.l.). The spectacular scenery over the myriad of lagunas down below is ample reward for our efforts. We progress amongst the lagunas, until we reach the ancient camp of mine Santa Fe. A short detour to a small nearby summit dominating the camp allows us to get a nice view over all the lagunas. We then climb slowly up to our camp, surrounded by the summits of Imilla Apachita, Maria Lloco and Huayna Potosi (el. 6088 m.a.s.l.). The view is superb (5/6-hour walk).
Cold lunch. All included. Bivouac

We then continue on towards the Milluni pass (el. 5000 m.a.s.l). From there, we overlook the Milluni Valley. We keep on going towards our shelter by passing Huayna Potosi on our left. At this point the Andes abruptly drop into the Yungas, a green and tropical area. This is the end of our trek (4-hour hike).
A private vehicle brings us back to La Paz at the end of the afternoon.
Cold lunch (included). Dinner open. Hotel ***.
Hiking time: 7h; Elevation gain: +200m / -300m

Day 11: LA PAZ – COROICO / MAD MOUNTAIN BIKE DESCENT

Departure at 8 a.m. from our hotel in a private 4WD, in direction to the Cordillera Real. After passing La Cumbre, a pass at 4750 m of altitude, the Andes abruptly drop below our feet. A few hundred kilometers lower as the crow flies, is the Amazon Basin! Welcome to this incredible intermediate region called the Yungas, named after an ancient pre-Incan tribe that used to live on its steep slopes.
Our exciting mountain bike descends starts at the Cumbre. As we drive down the winding road, the scenery becomes more lush, the air more humid, the wind yet warmer... more than 3500 meters of elevation loss to reach Yolosa (el. 1100 m.a.s.l.) in just a few hours!
To end the day, a steep 7-kilometer uphill (650 m of elevation gain) takes us to the village of Coroico, the “pearl of the Yungas” (possibility of ending in the assistance 4WD).
Cold lunch (included). Dinner open (restaurant El Cafetal recommended). Hotel ** / swimming pool

Day 12: COROICO – PUENTE VILLA / 60 km mountain bike ride

We cross the Yungas from north to south on very steep mountain slopes. We drive along a succession of ascents and descents via a seldom-traveled route. Coca terraces, coffee plantations and orchards line our journey to the village of Puente Villa. Our hotel is located a little ways from the village, in a tropical garden in the middle of the forest.
Afternoon open, Options to swim in the river or in the swimming pool or to take a walk by the river.
Cold lunch. All included. *** / Swimming pool.

Day 13: PUENTE VILLA – LA PAZ / 75 km mountain bike ride

After breakfast and a last glass of lemon or papaya juice, we get back in the 4WD and follow the Unduavi River located in the most beautiful valley of the region. Suddenly, on a promontory dominating the river and hidden behind ferns, we glimpse the silhouette of a Medieval castle. Probably the strangest building in Bolivia, it was erected by Paraguayan prisoners during the Chaco conflict (1932), in order to satisfy the whim of the Bolivian president. After leaving behind the waterfall of «Bridal Veil», named because of the mist its water generates, the valley becomes narrower and we begin our long ascent towards the Cordillera. (Option to finish the day in the assistance vehicle).
Lunch on the road (included). Dinner open. Hotel  ***.

Day 14: DEPARTURE
